Privacy Policy

The short version: Web Design Ruler collects nothing. The extension has no analytics, no ads, no accounts, and makes no network requests. Everything it saves stays in your browser, on your device. You can verify this yourself, because the source code is public.

Who we are

Web Design Ruler is a free browser extension for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, made by LXB Studio LLC. It measures page elements, identifies fonts, and picks colors. This policy covers both the extension and this website, webdesignruler.com.

What the extension collects

Nothing. The extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any data. In particular, it has:

No analytics or telemetry of any kind
No ads and no ad tracking
No user accounts and no sign-up
No network requests. The code contains zero calls to fetch or XMLHttpRequest, which you can confirm in our public audit document
No remote code. Everything the extension runs ships inside the install package

The extension works completely offline after installation.

What stays on your device

The extension saves your working data using your browser's local extension storage so it is there the next time you open the popup:

Color palettes you create or import, and your recent colors
Fonts you save from the font detector
Your last measurements
Your settings from the options page

This data never leaves your browser. We cannot see it, and neither can anyone else. Removing the extension deletes it. When you use a copy button, the value goes to your clipboard because you asked for it, and nowhere else.

Why the extension asks for the permissions it does

Access to websites: the tools draw their overlays and read styles on whatever page you are inspecting, so the extension needs to run its content script there. It only acts when you activate a tool.
Storage: keeps your palettes, fonts, measurements, and settings on your device, as described above.
Context menus: adds the right-click shortcuts for each tool.
Clipboard write: lets the copy buttons put colors and CSS on your clipboard. The extension never reads your clipboard.
Scripting / active tab: injects the tool overlay into the current tab when you invoke it.

This website

webdesignruler.com is a static site. It sets no cookies of its own, has no analytics scripts, and hosts its fonts itself. Our hosting provider and Cloudflare, which serves the site, keep standard server logs (things like IP addresses and requested pages) for security and performance. We do not use those logs to identify visitors.

The homepage includes a YouTube video player that loads only if you click play. When you do, YouTube (Google) receives the request and its own privacy policy applies.

Store disclosures

Our listings declare the same thing on every store: no data is collected. On Firefox, the extension's manifest formally declares data_collection_permissions: none, Mozilla's machine-readable way of saying the extension collects and transmits no data.

Changes to this policy

If the extension's behavior ever changes in a way that affects privacy, we will update this page and the version history will show it. Given that the whole point of this extension is to work offline with no strings attached, do not expect much movement here.
